Service Above Self: The Matching Values of Rotary and Transcend Wealth Partners

Written by Cynthia Calderon, Partner

One of Rotary’s main themes is youth and education. As Rotary members, we volunteer in educational programs such as reading with elementary school children, fundraising for student scholarships, and hosting an international student exchange program. Recently, Transcend Wealth Partners was privileged to be the title sponsor of the Rotary Club of Tahoe-Incline “Best Ball for a Cause” golf tournament to support education. It was a spectacular and fun event that raised approximately $30,000 to benefit students. There was no better way to spend a beautiful fall day in Tahoe than contributing to something meaningful while amongst friends, both old and new.

I moved to Incline Village, NV from the Bay Area 2½ years ago having no idea what new friends and community I would find here. A friend recommended that Rotary is one of the best ways to meet new people. I was hesitant to pursue this suggestion because of the stigma of Rotary being a “good ol’ boys’ club”. I have found this to be furthest from the truth. I am active in two clubs, Rotary of Reno-Downtown and Rotary Tahoe-Incline and have been welcomed wholeheartedly by both groups. It’s a perfect match for me because a primary motto of Rotary is “service above self”, something that comes very easily for me. I am able to connect with many like-minded people who want to do good in their communities and am humbled by how enthusiastic and passionate members are in providing time, talent and money for great causes.
